There’s a new breed of radio in the UK, and it’s happening in the community. Ofcom are licensing dozens of new stations, and we’re doing the imaging for a fair few! There are two contrasting examples on the front of our website at the moment.

Skyline Community Radio launched in Southampton last week, with a very classy set of jingles and sweepers from Devaweb. We resang a selection of jingles from Bespoke’s Kingdom FM package, and created a wide range of jingles, sweepers and programme idents, voiced by Ian Brannan and Philippa Collins.

Meanwhile, Afan FM are preparing to entertain the younger demographic in Neath & Port Talbot, South Wales. We’ve worked with them through their RSLs and have now created a set of stagers and out-of-break stabs to match the music they’re playing. HOSPITAL STATIONS MOVING CHANNELS

Some of our hospital radio clients who broadcast on the Patientline system have been in touch because they’re having to move channels. If your station is affected, email us and we can adapt your package to fit your new channel number. It’s a lot cheaper than creating a new set of IDs, and you’ll be ready to shout about being on channel 45… or channel 1… or whichever channel it is this week!

We’ve recently invested in a brand new Pro Tools based production system, which is expanding our musical abilities and production capabilities. Our philosophy still firmly remains that all stations should be able to afford excellent station imaging, and our new equipment will be used on all styles and levels of packages, regardless of who you are, where you are, or what budget you’ve got. And as ever, all our production is fully guaranteed… if you don’t like the way we mix something, we’ll keep remixing it until you’re more than delighted.

SO WHAT HAVE WE BEEN UP TO?
===========================

All sorts really! It’s hard to know where to start. So we’ll start at the very beginning, it’s a very good place etc etc etc…

We’ve been producing new sweepers, commercials and sung jingles for Skyline Radio, one of the new wave of community stations across the UK. You can hear a sample of our package for them at www.devaweb.co.uk. We’ve also been producing for the Globecast Radio group of stations – from Radio Silverstone to Crufts FM, through to an entire rebrand of Globecast itself. You can hear them on Sky 0157, and listen out for the IDs, featuring Dave Kelly and Philippa Collins. We’re currently working with many other new community statons – if you’re not on our list then get in touch and see what we could do for you.

On the commercial radio front, we’ve been continuing to produce highly effective imaging for Dee 106.3 and 96.2 The Revolution, and helping other un-named-for-legal-reasons stations out as well. We’re creating great stuff for Beat FM in Jordan, and we’ve been working for AMEinfo in Dubai.

Elsewhere… a few names into the pot… A new pack with a rock edge for RSL-now-community station Halton FM, the summer pack for Tyne FM and Youthcomm, a full package for HR Chelmsford based around their musical logo, more for Auckland Hospital Radio, and a complete package for Radio Haslar. Phew, we’re exhausted!

The Bespoke Music jingles are popular as ever, as are our presenter packs which continue to offer incredible value for money.

Right… clearly we need to disappear for a while, make some more jingles, and then maybe send you a new newsletter. If you check just one thing out, check out the summer sweeper package. At £50, it really is great value for money.

Following a busy Summer, Wise Buddah Jingles and Music Imaging has produced a number of packages for stations both in the UK and beyond.

For the UK, we have just put the final touches on a brand new package for Original 106 which launches on October 1st.

Keep an eye out on the Wise Buddah website for the package of seven Basic Ids, donuts and ramps.

Meanwhile, bespoke packages for Radio Stacja (Poland) and Skala FM (Denmark) are all also due up shortly.

Production also continues with a package for Radio Vienna (part of the ORF Network) for Austria’s Soft AC of over 30 cuts. All available via the WB website from mid-October.

Other new packages include one for Italy’s Radio Subasio. The Assisi based station plays a mix of Italian hits and music from the 60’s and beyond. Wise Buddah has been booked to produce a 20 cut package for the Naples based soft AC station.

Finally, re-sings for both Virgin Hitz and Virgin Soft in Thailand will also take to the air very soon.

Here at RadioJingles.co.nr, we’ve featured quite a few of the most popular voices in the radio ID jingles industry. We already met Emily Mcintosh, Michelle Priest and Annagrey Labasse. Now it’s time to put the spotlight on two familiar voices of UK and European jingles. Please welcome Kim Chandler and Chris Madin – The Jingle Dream Team.

Kim Chandler and Chris Madin are session singers at Virtual Vocals, a London (UK) based production company specializing in providing high quality vocals for jingles, radio station idents, featured vocals on tracks for release, demo songs for songwriters, website and backing vocals on albums.

Virtual Vocals is lead by producer-engineer Russell Chandler and mainstay session singer Kim Chandler. Aside from Kim and Chris, Virtual Vocals roster of voices also include Vanessa ang Jag. The jingle dream team’s voices – Kim Chandler and Chris Madin, have been featured in a number of radio jingle packages from companies like Wise Buddah, The Bespoke Music Co and Puretonic Media.

Kim Chandler

Kim Chandler is a native to Australia but she spent much of her session singing time in London recording jingles for Capital FM and McDonalds to name a few. She also had recorded backing vocals and performed live with such artists as Michael Jackson, Bjork, Michael Bolton, Puff Daddy and Rick Astley.

Aside from doing session vocals, Kim also coaches pop singing being once an Academic Head for VocalTech, London’s leading pop vocal college. Listen to Kim’s jingle showreel below.

Chris Madin

Chris Madin, who hails from Doncaster, England, is a talented young versatile singer who can belt out anything from pop to rock, jazz to R&B. Chris has made a number of jingles and demo songs, including those for popular names such as Rascal Flatts and Simply Red. He collaborated with Will Young on his 2005 UK tour. He even released a track called “You Shot Me” featuring 50 Cent which received airplay on Radio 1, Kiss 100 and got ‘Record of the Week’ on Galaxy FM.

Some of Chris’ remarkable jingle vocal projects include BBC Radio 1 (Dermot O Leary, Hit 40 UK) BBC Radio 2 (Chris Evans, Richard Hammond, Terry Wogan, Stuart McConey, Alan Titchmarsh) BBC Radio London (Station ident) Capital FM (Johnny Vaughn, Richard Bacon) and Smooth Radio. The UK’s newest commercial radio station, Andover Sound, launched Monday (26th May 2008) with a new bespoke jingle package available through Prometheus Radio Consultants.

The station which serves 80,000 people in North West Hampshire began broadcasting at 9am with a montage of sounds from the station’s coverage area informing the listener that “a new sound is born today”.

New jingles provided by radio development business Prometheus Radio Consultancy were produced by Box Projects. The station identifiers are branded “unjingles” by Prometheus Radio Managing Director David Harber. “The chaps at Box Projects are committed to providing something fresh to the UK jingle industry, their cuts have a mood, feel and construction about them that displaces their jingles from the usual run of station IDs”, says Harber.

“In our initial stages we discussed ensuring that the jingles were written from a listener’s perspective, not a programme controller’s perspective. Box Projects literally write a song before turning that track into a jingle.

“The brief was to create a series of thematic beds and sung jingles which would sit somewhere between Heart and BBC local radio.

“The result is a fantastic fresh set of tracks and vocals that have a simple but strong, memorable logo as each cut merges itself into the sound of the station”.

Matt Chapman from Box Projects, adds, “Real musicians providing real performances are what we strive to achieve. We worked hard alongside Prometheus Radio to retain our individual sound whilst acknowledging the ‘rules’ of station ID production.

“We are proud to be part of the new Andover Sound”.

Harber continues to say that too many jingles that are over produced: “The effect of delivering the station name is lost in many new jingle packages I hear today. The benefit to the listener should be confidence of listening to their favourite station ‘without interruption’ while the benefit to the programmer is to have your station name sung clearly, with pride and without interrupting your carefully programmed flow of music and speech”.

The new jingles are available as a demo from Prometheus Radio and are immediately available as market exclusive and personal cuts.

Fun Radio France 2008 – Custom
The package again is another collection of up-tempo and contemporary beds loaded to the gills with great vocals and production. The production wizards at Fun Radio use the tracks on-air, but really have their way with our vocal workparts as they cut them into sweepers, liners and every conceivable form of station sound.

One of Denmark’s legendary CHR stations is Radio ABC in Randers. For decades, it has been the leading station in its market, combining the hottest hits and a strong local presence with innovative station imaging. Audio-imaging specialist Production Park has struck a new deal with The Bespoke Music Company to offer high quality sung jingles to community radio stations, to celebrate 10 years of trading for the Lancashire-based company.

Production Park launched the deal this weekend at the Hospital Broadcasting Conference in Solihull, which was attended by delegates from radio stations all over the UK. The special offer, which runs till the end of November, is offering 20 per cent off the usual price of a sung jingle.

Bespoke Music currently produce the music imaging for over 100 radio stations – local, regional , national, international and hundreds more over the last 10 years. Clients include the BBC, GMG Radio, The Local Radio Company and CN Group.

Production Park has been working with hospital, community, student and online radio stations since 1998, and is established as one of the major players in the market.

Founder and producer Roy Martin: “Jingles and imaging, sometimes, without intention, become low-priority for many community radio groups setting up because of the expected high prices. But in our 10 year history we are proud to say we have squashed that myth and created many packages which fit in nicely with each stations individual format and (usually small!) budget.

People are scared. Owners/GMs are scared of losing money, scared of the de-valuation of their radio stations. And DJs are scared because they are afraid of losing their jobs.

DJs do the best job of handling fear, because DJs are ALWAYS afraid of losing their jobs. So, they learn how to handle fear or they don’t survive in this business. But, the current state of the economy has driven up the fear factor a bit, even for the jocks.

Positive action is the best way to handle fear and also the best way to get through a crisis. Just hunkering down and hoping it will go away is a losing strategy. Now is the time to be advertising/marketing the radio station like never before. Get out there and tell people about your radio station… not about the next contest… your RADIO STATION ! For the first time in a long time, the average person is open to messages about free entertainment.

Of couse, your station has to be entertaining if you want to market it as such. That means being pro active about what you let on the air. The era of too-tight playlists and nailed down jock clocks is wrong in an environment that calls for something entertaining. „Zero out“ the station.  Make yourself  a list… What’s on air that doesn’t need to be there? And what am I missing that should be there? Build the list back up again with an eye to entertainment. And  be sure you are using the listeners measurement of what is entertaining!

And, it’s time to begin spending more time with the on air talent. Think about ways to nurture the creative process while keeping the team focused. By the way, the more time you spend bonding with your team, the lower the „fear factor“… for everybody.
